STICKY NOTE: ANN ARBOR AND THE SIXTIES AND SEVENTIES

I was very active in the late 1950s (folk music) and in the 1960s and 1970s (blues music), mainly through our band, the Prime Movers Blues Band. There are a number of articles and essays on the Prime Movers, on Blues, and Folk Music, and music in general. Also, a liberal amount of artists and albums that I like reviewed or at least pointed out.

Ann Arbor Michigan is my home town, where I was raised, so I had a very unrealistic idea of America because Ann Arbor is anything but an average city. Nevertheless, that is where I found myself. Those first two “Ann Arbor Blues Festivals” were landmark events because the Black blues performers had never gathered by the hundreds (performers, bands, and families) prior to these two festivals. The later “Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Festivals of 1972, 1973, and 1974 carried on the tradition, but added jazz and soul to the roster.

My own band, the Prime Movers Blues Band, formed in the summer of 1965 (same time the Grateful Dead formed), with a young Iggy Pop as our drummer, is another important event in my life. Lots of stuff for music lovers here.
